Fresh organic produce on sale at the local farmers market.
Here’s one thing you can always count on – everyone gets hungry at some point. No matter who you are or where you go, people eat, and they eat a lot…and often! Simple fact: YOU. NEED. FOOD. When you are traveling on the road, the reality is that you likely don’t have a great deal of space for fresh fruits, veggies and meat. Most refrigerators that people bring in their converted Sprinter Van (or camper, or RV, etc.) are small. They can’t hold weeks worth of food, or oftentimes even days! Plus, aren’t we supposed to be enjoying the world that God created, and enjoying the fruits of this Earth, in all their TRUE deliciousness? This is where a farmers market comes in – stay with me now, people! I’m going to show you how to utilize this resource (almost) anywhere you travel.
Farmers Markets Are the Answer to So Many Issues
Farmers Markets are amazing. Many people visit Farmers Markets near them, and there are a million reasons why! Here are just a few!
1. Farmers Market Produce is typically organic, fresh and delicious!
There is a reason that people visit Farmers Markets – the food they sell there is a million times more tasty, delicious, and healthy than what you could find in the grocery store. The produce you find at the store is not fresh – it’s been on a truck, for who knows how long, and then has been sitting on that shelf, again, for who knows how long! At the Farmers Market you KNOW the food is fresh, and you are more than likely looking straight at the person who picked it. Maybe even that morning!
2. Non-GMO
Organic is one thing, and Non-Genetically Modified is another. You want Non-GMO. Trust me on this. These products are chemical free. That’s why you’ll see holes in them – because bugs were probably actually on those leafs of lettuce munching away! Don’t worry, they are still good enough to eat. And you’ll know that you aren’t eating any pesticides or other deadly chemicals.
3. In Season
The produce you are getting at a Farmers Market is typically in season. Maybe the meat isn’t in season, but you know that it is usually organic and non-GMO and as natural as a person can get it. Either way, this food is actually REAL FOOD, people. It’s not sawdust, or whatever they put in the rest of the food we buy at the grocery store, and just call it food.

4. Taste
Seriously? I will go ahead and mention this, but everyone on earth knows that a tomato that you just pick is a million times better than one you buy at the store. You can’t even compare the two. It’s seriously like completely different food. Now times that times a million, and that’s how ALL the food is at the Farmers Market.

5. New Food and Variety
Duck eggs? I had never had them before purchasing them at our local Farmers Market. Can you say delicious? It was like an egg – but on butter steriods or something. This egg was the richest egg I’d ever had! I cooked it myself so I knew I didn’t put any butter on it, but I never even knew an egg could taste so good. I know, now I’ve gone on so long about this you may be wondering if this is an egg blog. It might just turn into one, because wow, that egg was good. But its not just eggs, its all the food. Mushrooms that are the size of your fist, and kinds I had never heard of before, but tasted so delicious no restaurant has ever served me anything as good! And we still haven’t gotten to the meat and other veggies. I know, I know, I spent too much time talking about that egg. Did I mention how delicious that egg was?
6. Shop Local
Yes, you are traveling. But, you should still be shopping local and helping support the local economies that you are visiting. It’s just a nice thing to do. It helps tourism and helps the people there provide and support their families. It helps local farmers and helps local businesses. It’s definitely better than shopping at the huge national grocery store chain. Even if you are on a budget, you can find fresh produce and real, wholesome food for good prices at a Farmer’s Market.
7. Environmental Bonus Points
You get bonus points for being good to the environment. These small farms don’t use huge industrialized machines, or pesticides, or any of that junk. They just use the sweat off of their brow and hard work. You should reward that. We all should.
So, I’ve convinced you? Now, how in the world do you find a Farmers Market while traveling?
Sure, its easy enough to visit a Farmers Market when you are on your own turf, and your own familiar stomping grounds, but how do you find one when you are on the road. NOTHING could be easier. Ok, well I’m sure SOMETHING could be easier, but let’s not argue the point. Instead, let me show you this AMAZING resource that you absolutely have to try.
