1. Organize those pictures
Sure you will take pictures on your current road trip, but that is not what I’m talking about here! You know you need to organize all those past photos. Hey, I’m not judging. I’ve got pictures for the last 12 years of my 12 year old daughter ready to be organized. You have pictures on your phone. Too many. Completely unorganized. One of the best road trip activities you can do, as you travel to your next picture perfect adventure, is to actually spend time deleting those pictures you don’t need, and organizing the ones you do want to keep. Categorize them. Organize them. And then upload them to your laptop as you travel down the road.
But how, you say? Yah, I got you. I’m here to help. Because, wow, I’ve got a LOT of pictures too. First off, print those bad boys off, if you aren’t going to be doing the pictures digitally.
Get yourself one of these bad boys, IRIS Extra Large 4″ x 6″ Photo and Embellishment Craft Keeper, 2 Pack, Multi Color, and thank me later. It’s not only adorable, it’s so incredibly useful and the perfect solution to organize and protect photos, small craft items, and more. And a little handle? Forget about it – too cute! Get everything ready before your road trip, or use your time on the road trip to organize your pictures!
2. Make Online Photo Albums
Your pictures are all organized you say? Let me take a moment and try to comprehend that. I’m impressed and amazed. Good job! Those pictures that have now made the final cut are ready to be put into albums. I know, I can hear you say now – But I don’t want to take loads of scrapbooking materials on a road trip. You don’t have to do that at all! Take those pictures and use a FREE online photo album maker such as Shutterfly or Snapfish to make your albums. As you travel down the highway on your road trip, you can be revisiting old memories and preserving them forever!
3. Learn Something New
Road trip activities can be fun – but what about learning something new! That can be fun too! Maybe this adventure isn’t to Italy, but you want your next one to be! Maybe you want to Learn Italian? Not into languages? Learn how to watercolor paint so that you can paint the gorgeous scenery that you are visiting. Learn How to Play Chess for (Absolute) Beginners!!! Learn even how to master a rubik’s cube (seriously.) Amazon has some great ideas, and Udemy is a great website for this, and you can literally find a course on almost anything.
Even more importantly, just visiting the Udemy site will inspire you to learn things you had never thought to even try! These tutorials take you through step by step in order to learn something new! Although this article is about adults being productive, just think how amazing it would be to share this experience with your kids! You could all learn a language together, or how to knit, or almost anything TOGETHER. As a family. Good times!
4. Finish Those Projects
Half-knitted sweater? Partially done cross stitch? Great ideas for homemade Christmas presents? This is the perfect time to get these projects done. You can easily do knitting or crochet as you travel, in fact, its a relaxing way to make the time go by, AND be productive. Homemade Christmas presents can include anything from handmade cards to small knitted gifts. Use this time to your advantage! (Or maybe you just want to LEARN to knit! Fair enough, but I’m biased because wow, I love to knit!) Your kids can learn to knit with this amazing book:
But for the chicks? How about this one? It’s my FAVORITE and I learned a LOT FROM IT, and its hilarious and amaze-balls! But shhhh…..it has a bad word in it! For the record, I love Jesus, but I cuss a little.
But I digress….
There are a ton of other ideas you can do on your road trip!
One thing that we are planning to do is get a patch from every single National Park that we visit. We have a blanket that we purchased in Rocky Mountain National Park, and we will be sewing all of the patches on to this blanket as we travel. This would be a great idea to do while traveling as well! In fact, if you want to cheat and get them ahead of time (cheaper!) and you can work on it along the way! Click on any of these patches and it will take you directly to them!
4. Read Those Unfinished Books
We all have books that are either unfinished or unstarted. Take this time to finish them! Does reading in the car make you queasy? No worries! You can always listen to books that you have always wanted to read. This also can be done as a family, and can really make the travel experience so much better. Electronics are put away, and the actual simple art of listening to a story will bring a family so much closer together. You can even work on the projects you have unfinished, or do your picture organizing while you listen to the book (DOUBLE PRODUCTIVE BONUS POINTS!)
